U.S. SHARES HIGHER AT CLOSE OF TRADE; DOW JONES INDUSTRIAL AVERAGE UP 0.43%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.43%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.57%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.73%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.81% or 0.57 points to trade at 32.09 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.48% or 3.07 points to end at 211.04 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 1.41% or 0.48 points to 34.63 in late trade.

Biggest losers included American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which lost 0.72% or 1.18 points to trade at 162.41 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 0.42% or 0.94 points to end at 222.36 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) shed 0.40% or 0.41 points to 102.78.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA) which rose 4.39% to 309.11, Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:CZR) which was up 3.74% to settle at 46.87 and Paycom Soft (NYSE:PAYC) which gained 3.65% to close at 296.29.

The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 22.29% to 0.19 in late trade, SVB Financial Group (OTC:SIVBQ) which lost 7.73% to settle at 0.90 and Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) which was down 4.96% to 52.47 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Scynexis Inc (NASDAQ:SCYX) which rose 76.05% to 2.94, Palisade Bio Inc (NASDAQ:PALI) which was up 57.74% to settle at 2.65 and Accelerate Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:AXDX) which gained 41.49% to close at 0.71.

The worst performers were mCloud Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:MCLD) which was down 49.04% to 0.37 in late trade, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GMVD) which lost 38.29% to settle at 1.66 and Cyxtera Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CYXT) which was down 34.69% to 0.42 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2055 to 932 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1817 rose and 1787 declined, while 162 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.52% to 19.02.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 14.75 to $1,999.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.93% or 1.41 to hit $74.38 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 0.98 to trade at $78.57 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.57% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.18% to 132.60.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 101.84.
