Car insurance is just one of many things that has become more expensive during the cost of living crisis, with analysis from Compare the Market showing that it has risen an average of £81 since last year.
Martin Lewis recently urged drivers not to accept ‘ridiculous’ car insurance hikes, encouraging people to shop around for the best deals.
There are lots of factors that affect the price of your car insurance, but did you know that your job was one of them?
Here are the job titles with the most expensive car insurance.
According to MoneySuperMarket the most expensive job title for car insurance is hospital consultant, with average annual costs at an eye-watering £1,629.
This is followed by a car salesperson (£1,548) and clerical assistant (£1,296).
On the flipside, the cheapest occupation is retired, with an average annual cost of only £330, followed by supply teacher.
In order to try and lower the cost of your car insurance, it is possible to make small tweaks to your job title.
However, you need to still be describing what you do, otherwise it could be considered as fraud,
Kara Gammell, personal finance expert at MoneySuperMarket, told Sky News that if you work as a chef, it’s possible to describe yourself as a caterer to cut costs.
Or, it you’re a journalist, you could describe yourself as a writer instead.
She said: ‘Whatever your situation, it’s always worth shopping around for a better deal, and to pay less for the cover you need,” she said.
‘It’s best to start looking for a new deal about a month before your existing policy comes to and end.’
