MARTIN LEWIS EVISCERATES RISHI SUNAK IN BRUTAL HIGNFY TAKEDOWN

Taking a break from his financial advice, Martin Lewis took aim at the Prime Minister while appearing on Have I Got News For You.

The Money Saving Expert was guest host for the popular BBC current affairs panel show for this week’s episode and didn’t hold back on his thoughts on Rishi Sunak.

He was joined by regular panellist Ian Hislop and Ignacio Lopez while Steph McGovern, and Paul Merton completed the panel.

Discussions of little boys impersonating seagulls gave way to the main topic of the episode — the Safety of Rwanda bill pushed through government.

‘This is the news that in a surprising historical reversal, Britain is about to start rounding people up against their will and shipping them to Africa,’ quipped the 51-year-old journalist.

This isn’t the first time he’s taken aim at government plans, with Martin repeatedly speaking out on the cost of living crisis and sky high energy bills.

He continued: ‘The Rwandan scheme is proving quite expensive. It’s currently projected to have a base cost of £370m over the five-year contract, but on top of that there’s an additional charge of £150,874 per migrant deported.

‘Although, I’ve looked into this and they can get £25 off that if they use a voucher code. I’ve managed to source this one: “S**TSHOW2024”.’

As he let out a chuckle, Martin accidentally mispronounced Sunak as ‘Sonak’ to which Ian pretended not to know who he was on about.

‘He’s a mix between a sun bed and an anorak,’ chimed in Paul as Martin attempted to recover the moment.

Dismissing Rishi’s promises of these flights going ahead as ‘quite a claim’, the MSE cuttingly suggested the PM ‘ensure [flights] are ATOL protected’.

As panelists chuckled, Martin said: ‘[I suggest] that you pay for it on a credit card so you have section 75 protection, and of course, you pay it off “IN FULL!”’

The audience chimed in with ‘in full’, encouraged by the star to the bemusement of Ian, 63, who asked: ‘Why are they doing that?’

‘I think he’s trying to turn it into a catch phrase,’ an equally entertained Paul replied.

Focusing back on the Rwanda bill, Ian pointed out: ‘Embarrassingly, we have accepted asylum seekers in Britain from Rwanda on the grounds that it’s not safe there for them.

‘So presumably if we fly them over on the plane then they can then apply for asylum in Britain and come back again.’

Paul quipped: ‘Perhaps the plane should be on a bungee rope.’

The scheme in question sees asylum seekers arriving in the UK after crossing the English Channel flown to Rwanda, with money given to the country’s government.

More money will be pumped into the bill which was passed by MPs after hours of debate and months of political ‘ping pong’ over the highly controversial proposals.

Downing Street said any ‘potential cash boost’ would cover ‘additional costs’ associated with addressing the concerns raised by the Supreme Court when it ruled the plan was unlawful.

Have I Got News For You airs Friday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
