NORWAY ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN MILITARY AID TO UKRAINE

Espen Barth Eide, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, announced that Norway plans a "significant" increase in aid to Ukraine. The amount has yet to be determined and will be discussed in the near future, according to Le Monde.

He noted that "it is about a significant increase, which is relevant compared to what we have done so far."

According to Eide, the amount of aid has not been determined yet, as it needs to be discussed with other parties.

"We cannot be complacent and say we are paying a lot. We need to think strategically about how this will end. And Russia's victory is not an option," added the minister, who visited Ukraine last week.

Norwegian aid to Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, recently announced Oslo's readiness to allocate billions for Ukraine's air defense. The Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine provides military and civilian support totaling 75 billion Norwegian kroner over a five-year period.

Earlier, the Norwegian government allowed direct sales of weapons and defense industry products from Norway to the Ukrainian military.

In October 2023, Norway announced a contribution of $18.5 million for mine clearance in Ukraine.

Kyiv and Oslo are negotiating the conclusion of a bilateral security agreement, which could be another step towards strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
